Privacy policy
shopmate is a grocery delivery service in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur that works over WhatsApp. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it and the choices you have.
What we collect
When you order
- Your WhatsApp number and WhatsApp profile name.
- The messages you send us, including shopping lists and corrections.
- Voice notes. We turn them into text and delete the audio straight away; we keep the text.
- Your delivery address and, if you share one, your location pin.
- Your orders: what you asked for, when, and which driver delivered them.
When you sign up as a driver
- Your WhatsApp number, full name and home address.
- A selfie and a photo of your citizenship card or driving licence.
- Your vehicle type and number plate.
- The area you want to work in, and when you are on or off duty.
How we use it
- To understand your order, read it back to you and find the nearest available driver.
- To remember your address so you don't have to send it every time.
- To check and approve drivers before they receive any orders.
- To help with problems, answer questions and keep the service safe.
- To improve how shopmate works.
We don't sell your information and we don't use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
- Your driver. When a driver accepts your order, they get your name, WhatsApp number, delivery address and shopping list. You get the driver's name and number.
- WhatsApp (Meta). All messages go through the WhatsApp Business Platform.
- AI providers. We use AI models, accessed through OpenRouter, to read your messages and transcribe voice notes. They receive the message or voice note only to process it for us.
- Hosting. Our server and encrypted backups are stored with hosting providers.
- Authorities. If the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Your address and order history are kept while you use shopmate, so we can serve you and resolve any issues.
- Voice note audio is deleted as soon as it has been transcribed.
- If we don't approve a driver application, we delete the selfie and ID photo.
- You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Keeping it safe
Your information is stored on a private server. Driver documents can only be viewed by shopmate staff, and backups are encrypted.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll take care of it. To change your delivery address, just send us the new one.
Children
shopmate is meant for adults. Drivers must be at least 18.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
